About the Crafter

Born Hearing Impaired, Mr Ng Siang Hoi is an artist for life. Taught by a Hearing Impaired art teacher at the age of 14, he discovered early on that art could be his language, his passion, and his way of connecting with the world. Now at 75, he continues to paint with quiet determination and grace.

Working full-time as an artist, Siang Hoi specialises in a unique mixed media style—combining watercolour, acrylic, and ink to breathe life into nostalgic scenes of Singapore. His artwork often captures moments and places from the past: bustling markets, riverside villages, and iconic landmarks, all rendered with a sense of warmth and memory.

Though he cannot hear, Siang Hoi’s paintings speak volumes. Each piece reflects not only his love for Singapore but also a journey of resilience, expression, and unwavering creativity. His story reminds us that the human spirit, when nurtured, can overcome limitations and create something truly beautiful.
